Government is yet to release the balance of shillings 366.85 billion to National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to finance the coming mass enrollment and renewal of National Identification Cards to Ugandans. The nationwide exercise is scheduled to kick off on June 1st, 2024 and will run until September 30, 2025. Many passengers suffered injuries on a recent Friday afternoon when a Kakise bus, en route from Mbale to Soroti District, fell into Kachumbala Bridge. The incident reportedly occurred because the bus was carried off the road by swift floodwaters resulting from a heavy downpour.
