A video showing a woman slapping and dragging her daughter outside a bar in Naalya, Kampala, has spread widely on social media, drawing public attention to the incident.

The 16-second clip, recorded late at night outside Que Pasa bar, shows the woman striking the young woman as she pulls her toward a white car. The video carries the caption: “How does your mum pick you from Que Pasa with slaps?”

The identities of the two women have not been officially confirmed. Police have not stated whether a complaint has been filed or whether investigations have begun.

Uganda’s Domestic Violence Act criminalises physical assault within families, including between parents and adult children. The law provides penalties for acts of violence and public assault within domestic relationships.

The video triggered mixed reactions online, with users sharing differing views on parenting and discipline. Several comments focused on the public nature of the incident, while others discussed parental authority.

According to Uganda Police Force annual crime reports, more than 14,000 domestic violence cases are recorded each year, averaging about 40 cases per day nationwide. Police data shows that urban areas, including the Kampala Metropolitan area, register a high number of such cases. Many incidents are not reported due to stigma and the belief that family matters should be handled privately.
