Swift News Chief Executive Officer Frank Kamuntu, popularly known as Mr Swift, has earned a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Victoria University, marking another achievement in his academic and professional career.
Kamuntu received the qualification during the university’s 10th Graduation Ceremony, which started on Monday and concludes today at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
A journalist and media entrepreneur, Kamuntu has established himself in news reporting, digital publishing and technology. His latest achievement reflects his determination to advance his education while strengthening his expertise in the media industry.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in 2024, Kamuntu committed himself to further studies, promising to continue in the same field. Two years later, he has fulfilled that goal by adding a master’s degree to his academic qualifications.
Speaking about his journey, Kamuntu acknowledged that pursuing postgraduate education while managing work and other responsibilities was not easy. He, however, said the encouragement and support he received from people around him played an important role in helping him complete his studies.
He particularly recognised Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga, whom he described as a father figure and a major source of inspiration throughout his academic journey.
“Truth be told, my hero in this journey has been Dr. Lawrence Muganga. To me, he is a father and my superhero. Sometimes I just sit and think about how much he embraced and loved me, and I run out of words,” Kamuntu said.
He praised Muganga for fostering a learning environment where students feel appreciated and supported as they pursue their ambitions. According to Kamuntu, the Vice Chancellor’s personal encouragement made a significant difference during his studies.
Kamuntu also applauded Victoria University’s digital learning system, saying its online lectures, assignments and examinations allowed him to complete his master’s programme while continuing with his professional duties.
He noted that the flexibility to study from different locations was especially helpful given the demands of his work as a media executive.
The Swift News boss also expressed gratitude to his lecturers, with special recognition for his research supervisor, Dr. Adnan Adikata, for guiding him through the dissertation process.
He described the research stage as one of the most challenging parts of postgraduate studies, crediting Adikata’s patience, guidance and encouragement for helping him improve his work and stay focused until completion.
Following his graduation, Kamuntu encouraged young people, particularly members of Generation Z, to pursue higher education and choose institutions that equip them with practical skills suited to the changing demands of the workplace.
“Graduation is not the end of learning; it is the beginning of a greater journey. Keep pursuing further studies, because every new qualification expands your knowledge, sharpens your skills and opens doors to opportunities you never imagined. Never stop learning, because your future will be shaped by what you continue to learn today,” he said.
He advised prospective university students to look beyond academic certificates and consider institutions that develop practical abilities, creativity and adaptability, which he said are essential in today’s competitive job market.
Kamuntu added that Victoria University’s learning model illustrates how technology can make education more accessible, especially for people balancing their studies with employment and other responsibilities.
Despite earning his master’s degree, Kamuntu revealed that he does not intend to stop his academic journey. He plans to pursue another qualification in a different discipline, with technology among his likely areas of focus.
The proposed move aligns with his role at Swift Technologyz, a company that provides website development, design, hosting and other digital services, as well as his interest in software engineering.
He hopes to build on his media background by gaining more technical knowledge as journalism, online publishing and technology continue to intersect.
Congratulations to the big boss, Frank Kamuntu, on this latest milestone!
