Catholic Sister Dismissed After Saying Priests Chew Them Day and Night

A Kenyan Catholic congregation has reportedly dismissed its member weeks after she made a controversial post on Facebook.Reverend Sister Shako Annastasia previously called out priests against preying on reverend sisters or using them as their wives.

In the long post, which went viral, Annastacia narrated the struggles and mistreatment of religious sisters in the Church.

She confronted the harmful assumptions that they are subservient to priests or serve as their companions in ways that compromise their dignity.

“Religious sisters are not priests’ wives or bedmates. Religious sisters are not ornaments in habits.

We are not commodities for priests to use at will, nor are we mistresses in veils. We are women called by God, consecrated to service, prayer, and the mission of the Church. Yet too often, behind stained glass windows and polished marble altars, we are treated as less. A priest once told me without shame: “Sisters are meant to be priests’ wives.” He did not say it in jest. He meant it. And he acted on it,” Annastacia wrote.

The sister continued:

“This is not an isolated case. Too many Sisters know the pain of being reduced to temptation instead of being respected as collaborators in Christ’s vineyard. Too many know the silent wounds of manipulation—when a cleric uses “spiritual direction” as a cover for advances, or when financial benefactors expect our dignity in exchange for support.”

Just weeks after sparking reactions with her post, Annastacia was dismissed by the congregationIn her new Facebook post, she revealed that she had received the dismissal letter on September 24.

According to her, the letter was dated July 21. Annastasia disclosed she was given a token of KSh 8,600, and that she returned to find her belongings already packed outside the room she stayed in and her religious items taken away.

She did not disclose the reason for her dismissal, but appreciated everyone who stood by her in prayer and encouraged her through the difficult time.

“I wish to let the public know that on this day, 24th day of September 2025, I received a letter of dismissal from the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters, dated 21 July 2025. A token of… KSh 8,600 was given to me. From my heart, I sincerely thank everyone who has stood by me in prayer and encouragement through this time. Your love and support mean more than words can express…”
