Sudhir Ruparelia’s Paradise Island Resort Marks a New Era for Lake Victoria Tourism

Billionaire entrepreneur Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia is preparing to launch one of Uganda’s most significant tourism ventures to date a luxury private island resort on Lake Victoria scheduled to open later this year. Named Paradise Island Resort, the project occupies a 24-acre island and is expected to set a new benchmark for upscale leisure and eco-tourism in the country.

The island is roughly a 20-minute speedboat journey from Speke Resort Munyonyo, offering guests both privacy and convenient access. Defined by expansive lake views, rugged rock formations, and abundant birdlife, the resort has been thoughtfully planned to complement its natural surroundings rather than overwhelm them. Those involved in the development say the vision has been to deliver exclusivity while maintaining a strong connection to the lake’s environment.

Accommodation is spread across the island to ensure privacy and preserve scenic views. Options range from standard cottages and cliff-side units perched along elevated rock faces to large two-bedroom cottages and executive villas designed for guests seeking the highest level of comfort. Each unit prioritizes uninterrupted lake vistas, natural airflow, and contemporary interiors that meet international luxury expectations.

To keep operations running smoothly, the Ruparelia Group invested in a specially constructed barge to manage transportation between the mainland and the island. The vessel facilitates the movement of supplies, equipment, and personnel while minimizing environmental disruption. This focus on dedicated infrastructure underscores a self-reliant operational model that has long characterized Ruparelia’s business philosophy.

Paradise Island Resort is projected to make a notable contribution to Uganda’s tourism industry, particularly within the premium travel segment. As demand grows for distinctive, experience-focused destinations, private island resorts provide a strong competitive edge. The project is also expected to generate employment in hospitality, transport, and related services, stimulating economic activity around Lake Victoria.

The new resort expands Dr. Ruparelia’s well-established hospitality portfolio, which includes landmark properties such as Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kabira Country Club, and the Commonwealth Convention Centre. Collectively, these developments have strengthened Uganda’s appeal for international conferences, leisure travelers, and luxury tourism.

Beyond commercial considerations, Paradise Island Resort reflects rising confidence in Uganda’s ability to attract high-value visitors while safeguarding its natural resources. By pairing environmentally sensitive design with premium amenities, the project aligns with the global movement toward sustainable luxury travel.

With the opening drawing closer, interest within the hospitality sector continues to grow. More than a new hotel, Paradise Island Resort signals the future direction of Uganda’s tourism industry and reinforces Sudhir Ruparelia’s standing as an investor focused on enduring, high-impact developments that elevate the sectors they serve.
