Sudhir Ruparelia Earns Shs2.25 Billion Dividend From Bank of Baroda Investment

Ugandan businessman and Ruparelia Group chairman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has received Shs2.25 billion in dividends from his investment in Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Limited following the bank’s strong financial performance during the 2025 financial year.

Ruparelia received the payment through a ceremonial cheque worth Shs2,250,981,000 during a formal presentation on August 19, 2026. A photograph from the occasion showed the businessman alongside a Bank of Baroda official.

The payment represents dividends earned from Ruparelia’s shareholding in the listed bank for the financial year that ended on December 31, 2025.

Bank of Baroda Uganda approved a dividend of Shs6 per share for the year, an increase from the Shs4 per share that shareholders received for the previous financial year.

Ruparelia is reported to own approximately 375.16 million shares in the bank, representing about 2.5 per cent of the institution. His substantial holding places him among the notable individual shareholders in the financial institution.

The dividend followed a strong performance by Bank of Baroda Uganda, which recorded profit after tax of approximately Shs156.8 billion in 2025. The improved earnings provided room for the bank to increase its distribution to shareholders.

Shareholders subsequently approved the higher dividend during the bank’s Annual General Meeting, paving the way for investors to receive their payments after the necessary regulatory procedures were completed.

For Ruparelia, the dividend adds to income generated from a broader investment portfolio that covers several areas of Uganda’s economy, including real estate, hospitality, education and financial services.

The businessman, who founded and chairs the Ruparelia Group, has maintained investments in Uganda’s financial sector for many years. His Bank of Baroda holding forms part of a wider strategy of spreading investments across different industries and financial assets.

The payment also highlights the potential benefits of investing in listed companies, particularly when businesses record strong earnings and return a portion of those profits to shareholders through dividends.

For investors, dividend payments can provide an additional source of income while allowing shareholders to maintain their ownership in the companies in which they have invested.

The increase in Bank of Baroda Uganda’s dividend from Shs4 to Shs6 per share demonstrates the impact that improved profitability can have on shareholder returns.

The Shs2.25 billion payout therefore underscores the scale of income that sizeable equity investments can generate when a listed company performs strongly and maintains a consistent approach to rewarding its shareholders.
