Even though he passed away at just 35, Rajiv Ruparelia is still widely remembered as one of Uganda’s standout young business figures, someone whose ambition and leadership helped steer parts of the Ruparelia Group and left a clear mark on the country’s corporate world.

During a conversation at Crane Chambers between Ruparelia Group Chairman Sudhir Ruparelia and Pan African Pyramid speaker Andrew Irumba Katusabe, Sudhir spoke about his son with deep emotion and pride, saying he managed to accomplish a remarkable amount within a very short life.

“Rajiv lived a very impactful life,” he said. “He died at 35. Very impactful life.”

Born into one of Uganda’s most prominent business families, Rajiv grew up watching the Ruparelia Group expand into a major East African conglomerate. However, those who worked closely with him say he never relied on that background alone. Instead, he actively contributed to building and strengthening the business.

Over the years, he became an important part of the group’s leadership, taking part in efforts to modernize operations and support the growth of several investments across the portfolio. Colleagues often describe him as energetic, forward-looking, and deeply interested in innovation and improving business processes in a fast-moving environment.

He was also seen as part of a new generation of Ugandan entrepreneurs who embraced technology, branding, and international business standards while still focusing on local growth opportunities.

Outside business, Rajiv built a strong presence in motorsport, where he competed in rally driving and earned respect for his determination and competitive spirit. This side of his life further shaped his public image as someone disciplined, focused, and courageous.

Those who interacted with him frequently recall that he was approachable and easy to talk to. He often engaged directly with employees, partners, and young entrepreneurs, offering advice and taking time to listen.

Within the Ruparelia Group, he played a bridging role between generations, combining the experience of senior leadership with fresh ideas shaped by a modern business mindset. This balance, according to colleagues, helped strengthen the group’s long-term direction.

His sudden death deeply shocked Uganda’s business community, leading to widespread tributes from corporate leaders, public figures, employees, and ordinary people who had interacted with him. Many noted that his passing was not only a loss to his family but also to Uganda’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Even after his passing, his influence continues to be felt within several Ruparelia Group ventures, where his ideas and approach to business remain part of ongoing strategies and development.

To honor his legacy, Pan African Pyramid has organized a commemorative event set for August 29 at Speke Resort Munyonyo, expected to bring together business leaders, colleagues, and members of the public in remembrance of his life and impact.

Although his life was brief, Rajiv Ruparelia is remembered for his drive, innovation, and leadership. His story continues to be told as proof that impact is not defined by years lived, but by the lasting difference made.
