Sudhir, Kirumira Back Muhoozi as PLU Steps Up Presidential Mobilisation

Uganda’s prominent businessmen Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira have publicly thrown their support behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions, giving the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) a high-profile boost as it steps up its mobilisation efforts.

The two business leaders visited the PLU headquarters on Monday, September 7, 2026, where they signed endorsement books backing Gen. Muhoozi’s bid for the presidency.

Their presence at the PLU offices was welcomed by supporters as a notable display of confidence in Muhoozi’s leadership and political aspirations. Their participation also brought the backing of two well-known figures from Uganda’s private sector into the group’s wider campaign to gather public endorsements.

PLU officials and mobilisers confirmed that the two businessmen took part in the signature drive, which the organisation says is targeting millions of endorsements in support of Muhoozi.

Supporters subsequently celebrated the development, portraying the involvement of the two businessmen as a sign of increasing confidence among influential members of Ugandan society in Muhoozi’s political future.

Sudhir’s latest endorsement follows his previous public association with initiatives linked to Gen. Muhoozi.

In April 2026, the businessman contributed UGX100 million towards Muhoozi’s “Run for Hope” birthday charity event held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Muhoozi’s supporters viewed that contribution as an indication of Sudhir’s willingness to support initiatives associated with the General.

His latest move represents another public expression of support, this time taking place directly within the PLU’s political mobilisation campaign.

For PLU supporters, the involvement of prominent business figures could raise the organisation’s profile and potentially encourage other members of Uganda’s business community to publicly engage with Muhoozi’s political ambitions.

Sudhir and Kirumira also appeared in connection with the Kwagalana Group, an influential network of Kampala-based businesspeople with interests in various sectors of the economy.

Their participation adds another dimension to the endorsement because of the prominence of the business community associated with the two businessmen.

The Kwagalana Group has for years been linked to some of Kampala’s notable entrepreneurs and property owners, making the public involvement of two of its prominent figures politically significant.

The endorsement comes as PLU continues working to broaden both its grassroots and influential support base for Muhoozi.

The organisation has been conducting a signature campaign designed to demonstrate the level of backing for the General’s presidential ambitions.

The participation of Sudhir and Kirumira could give the campaign additional momentum, particularly among sections of the private sector that closely monitor political developments because of their possible implications for Uganda’s economy and business environment.
