The Electoral Commission has declared Idah Nabayiga, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, as the newly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District following the successful conclusion of the district’s parliamentary by-election.

The official declaration was made by Kalangala District Returning Officer Ronald Agaba after the completion of voting, ballot counting, and the tallying of results from all polling stations. He confirmed Nabayiga’s victory in accordance with Uganda’s electoral laws.

According to the Electoral Commission, the by-election was conducted within the country’s legal and electoral framework, with polling taking place peacefully and successfully throughout the district.

Following the announcement of the results, the Commission congratulated Nabayiga on her election and commended everyone who contributed to the smooth management of the electoral process.

In its statement, the Commission extended appreciation to voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, accredited observers, members of the media, and other stakeholders for their participation and cooperation during the exercise.

The Commission noted that the collective efforts of all participants were instrumental in ensuring the election was conducted in an orderly, peaceful, and credible manner.

Nabayiga’s victory further strengthens the NRM’s representation in Parliament while providing Kalangala District with a new Woman Member of Parliament.

The Electoral Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections. It encouraged all electoral stakeholders to continue respecting electoral laws and procedures while working together to support future elections across the country.
