The late Ugandan entrepreneur and philanthropist Rajiv Ruparelia has been recognised for his humanitarian contributions and commitment to community initiatives at the 2026 Pan-African Pyramid (PAP) Global Awards.
Rajiv was awarded the Humanitarian Award during the ninth PAP Global Awards ceremony, held on Saturday, August 29, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The event also marked the 12th anniversary of the Pan-African Pyramid.
His posthumous recognition was one of the highlights of an event that attracted prominent businesspeople, entrepreneurs, activists, Pan-Africanists and other influential figures from Uganda, different parts of Africa and the diaspora.
Rajiv, who passed away in May 2025, served as Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group and was known for his involvement in business as well as charitable and community-oriented activities. The award recognised his efforts to support humanitarian causes and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in different communities.
He shared the Humanitarian Award with former Ugandan legislator Hon. Helen Nakimuli Walusimbi. South African anti-apartheid campaigner Dr Khanyisile Litchfield Tshabalala was also honoured, receiving the Freedom Fighter Award for her contribution to the struggle against apartheid.
Several other individuals and organisations were recognised during the ceremony for their work in African development, entrepreneurship, leadership and the advancement of Pan-African ideals.
Dr Frank Mugyenyi received recognition for his work in African mineral sovereignty and governance. Ghanaian entrepreneur and Ambassador Clinton Arko Agyemang was honoured for his contribution to youth social and development entrepreneurship.
Jamaican Pan-Africanist Blossom Thomas received the African Renaissance Leadership Award in the diaspora, while Ugandan industrialist Victoria Sugar was recognised with the African Development Entrepreneur Award.
MTN Uganda was presented with the Lifetime Achiever Award, while Prince Wasajja Kiwanuka received the African Renaissance Award.
The awards ceremony was accompanied by speeches and discussions examining major issues affecting the continent, including economic development, African sovereignty, the refugee situation, decoloniality and what speakers referred to as forms of “new colonialism.”
Zimbabwean Pan-Africanist Bishop Joshua Maponga delivered the keynote address, while other voices from Africa and the diaspora, including US activist Ayo Kimathi, contributed to the discussions on Africa’s future.
The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to celebrate individuals making contributions to African society while also engaging in broader conversations about the continent’s development, identity and future.
The formal programme later transitioned into celebrations, with guests enjoying dinner, cake cutting and live music.
For Rajiv’s family, friends and supporters, the Humanitarian Award represents another tribute to a young businessman whose life combined entrepreneurship with philanthropy and community engagement.
His recognition at the PAP Global Awards further preserves the memory of his contribution to humanitarian and social causes, as his legacy continues to receive attention among Uganda’s business and community circles.
