Suspected goat thief killed by angry Bushenyi mob

Bushenyi District – A man identified only as Kiyoyo, a resident of Nkoni Village, Kararo Parish, Kyeizooba Sub-County in Bushenyi District, was lynched by an angry mob on Sunday after being caught red-handed cooking stolen goat meat and possessing the animal’s skin.

The incident unfolded after Nuwagaba Peace, a resident of Kitagata Village in Kyeizooba Sub-County, discovered her brown goat, valued at approximately Ugx 350,000, had been stolen from her kitchen early Sunday morning. Nuwagaba immediately alerted her neighbors, who began searching for the missing animal.

During the search, the neighbors found a red cap and a knife near the kitchen where the goat had been tied. They followed blood droplets into a nearby banana plantation and traced them to Rwentuha-Bugongi Road, where the trail ended.

The red cap was identified as belonging to Nkabigumira, the son of Tibahiika, prompting suspicions that he might be at Kiyoyo’s residence. Joined by Ben, the GISO (Gombolola Internal Security Officer) of Kyeizooba, the group proceeded to Kiyoyo’s home.

Upon arrival, they found Kiyoyo cooking goat meat and recovered a brown goat hide from his house. Kiyoyo claimed that Nkabigumira had brought a goat to his home early that morning, which they slaughtered. He alleged that Nkabigumira took the meat to sell at Bugongi, leaving him with the offals he was cooking.

The GISO arrested Kiyoyo and his wife, Medrine, and began escorting them to Mwengura Police Station. However, en route, an angry mob confronted Kiyoyo, accusing him of being a serial offender. The mob assaulted him with sticks, leaving him critically injured.

Police were called to intervene, but by the time officers arrived, Kiyoyo had already sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but died on the way.

Police have opened a case of murder by mob action at Bushenyi Central Police Station under reference number CRB 1154/2025. They recorded statements, documented the crime scene, and conveyed Kiyoyo’s body to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Nkabigumira, the suspected accomplice, was apprehended in Bugongi, where he was found selling roasted goat meat.

SSP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the mob suspects.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
