The Buganda Kingdom has raised concerns over a recently circulated map of Uganda that does not acknowledge its existence. The kingdom’s leadership sees this as a deliberate move to distort history and undermine Buganda’s significance.
In a statement released by Buganda’s Minister for Communication, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, he emphasized that this is not the first time such an issue has occurred.
He recalled a similar incident in 2018 when the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) published a map that left out Buganda.
Kazibwe pointed out that during the 63rd birthday celebrations of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II in 2018, the monarch strongly condemned this omission.
The event, held at Villa Maria in Masaka, provided a platform for the Kabaka to express his disappointment with the way Buganda was being ignored in official records.
“This is not the first time such an act has happened.
In 2018, UBOS released a map that did not include Buganda, and during the Kabaka’s 63rd birthday celebrations at Villa Maria, His Majesty publicly condemned this action,” the statement read.
Kazibwe also noted that Buganda’s Prime Minister (Katikkiro), Charles Peter Mayiga, has spoken out in the past about similar concerns.
The Katikkiro has continuously reminded the people of Buganda to remain vigilant and informed about attempts to erase their kingdom from history.
The latest map, which is widely shared on social media, once again excludes Buganda while recognizing other traditional kingdoms in Uganda.Kazibwe believes that such actions are intentional and meant to shift focus from Buganda’s key objectives.
“As the spokesperson of Buganda Kingdom, I want to make it clear that this is a deliberate move meant to distract us from our main goals. However, it will not succeed,” Kazibwe stated.
Despite these challenges, the kingdom has urged its people to remain calm and united. Kazibwe reassured them that Buganda’s legacy and historical significance cannot be erased.
“I want to assure you that no one can erase our history.
Buganda is a rock—those who have attempted to tamper with it in the past have faced unexplainable consequences,” he added.
