Kakamega, Kenya – Hellen Olunga, a heartbroken mother of five from Khaunga B village in Mumias East, has made an emotional appeal to the government for employment after losing her husband, Stephen Okumu, in a tragic accident.
Okumu, a hardworking boda boda rider, died after a kitchen wall he was demolishing collapsed on him. Despite being rushed to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Hellen, a trained teacher, is now left to raise their five children alone.
Speaking through tears, she described her late husband as a dedicated family man and urged authorities to help her secure a job so she can provide for her young family.
“I just want to take care of my children. I’m trained and willing to work,” she said, calling on the government and well-wishers for support.
The devastating incident has left the local community in mourning, and sparked renewed calls for support systems for widows and young families affected by tragedy.
