Lucknow, India: In a chilling case, a woman, in association with her lover, is suspected to have murdered her husband, chopped the body into pieces, stuffing them into a suitcase before dumping it in a field, 55 km from her residence.
The incident, reminiscent of the infamous Saurabh murder case in Meerut where the man was killed by his wife and her lover by mixing sedatives in food, stabbing him and stuffing body parts into a drum, took place in Deoria district.
The victim, Naushad Ahmad (38), returned home from Dubai just 10 days ago.
The crime came to light on Sunday morning when a farmer in Patkhauli village found a trolley bag abandoned in his field.
Upon being alerted, police opened the suitcase and discovered a mutilated body, chopped in two – the upper half wrapped in plastic and the lower half in a sack. Initial attempts to identify the body failed, said the police.
Superintendent of Police, Deoria, Vikran Vir, who led the probe, said that a crucial clue came in the form of a photocopy of the passport and address of the deceased person’s father in the suitcase.
The bag, as it turned out, was the same one Naushad brought back from Dubai. The police identified the deceased as Naushad, a resident of Bhatauli village.
“When police visited Naushad’s house, his wife Razia Sultana started weeping, claiming he went missing the previous night. But a search of the house revealed bloodstains and another suitcase with traces of blood. Confronted with the evidence, Razia eventually broke down and confessed to the crime,” SP added. She admitted to having an affair with her nephew Roman.
Naushad, she claimed, came to know about the affair. When he became an hindrance, Razia, Roman, and his friend Himanshu hatched a plan to eliminate him.
On the night of April 19–20, Razia allegedly sedated Naushad. Once he was unconscious, Roman and Himanshu arrived in a Bolero vehicle. The trio first strangled Naushad, then used sharp-edged tools to dismember his body to fit it into the suitcase, he said.
Police recovered the murder weapons — a chopper, axe, and pestle — from the house, along with the bloodied suitcase and Naushad’s mobile phone. A foreign SIM card was also found near the dumped suitcase. The murder took place around 2am on Sunday.
