What Bugisu Farmers Learnt from Visiting President Museveni’s Farms

On Thursday evening, 31st October, 2024 over 150 farmers, including youth and women from Bugisu, embarked on a three-day farm tour of President Museveni’s farms in western Uganda and Kisozi. Under the theme “From Subsistence to Cash Farming,” the visit aimed to enhance skills for boosting household incomes. The team started the tour at Hana Farm on Friday morning.

 

Gerald Malemo Wangota, a young farmer from Namabya in Namisindwa, expressed gratitude for the experience, marking his first trip beyond Mbale.

 

He acknowledged the efforts of youth councilor, Emma Bwayo and organizer Kefa Mafumo for making the visit possible. Wangota shared that he gained valuable insights into modern poultry methods, banana spacing, and organic manure production.

 

Esau Muyeti, the Namisindwa town council speaker and also farmer, was impressed by the productivity of a 1.3-acre farm generating a daily income of UGX 1.5 million. He praised the organization efforts by Bwayo and Mafumo.

 

Emma Bwayo, Namisindwa’s male youth councilor, encouraged participants to apply their newfound knowledge, emphasizing that future opportunities would prioritize committed farmers. He appreciated President Museveni for approving the visit.

 

The team will visited Kasozi farms on Saturday and returned on Sunday morning, 2nd November, 2024.
