Over 180 supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) from Dwaniro Sub-County in Kiboga district have switched their allegiance to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The move was led by Kizito Siraje Nkugwa, a former LC5 chairman, who handed over NUP materials to Dr. Canon Ruth Nankabirwa Sentamu, the NRM Kiboga district chairperson, during a ceremony at Kiboga town council grounds.
The event reflected the supporters’ warm reception back into the NRM fold. Nkugwa stated that his decision to rejoin NRM was driven by his desire to support President Museveni in the upcoming elections, acknowledging his regret for leaving the party in the past.
He also apologized to NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, saying he had no choice because NRM had been his party since childhood.
“I’m so sorry to NUP and Robert Kyagulanyi, the president, for crossing back to NRM because NRM is my party from childhood. Kiboga is 100% NRM, and it will remain that way for the rest of President Museveni’s life. Bye-bye NUP, we are forever NRM,” he said.
Dr. Nankabirwa, who is also the Minister of Energy, called for unity within NRM and encouraged members to focus on the party’s success rather than past disagreements.
She presented NRM aspirants and urged voters to back the right candidates. The event ended with a resolution endorsing Dr. Nankabirwa as the sole candidate for the NRM Kiboga district chairperson position and President Museveni as the only candidate for the upcoming NRM delegates conference.
