Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and State Minister Evelyn Anite lit up the mood at the 36th National Heroes Day celebrations in Lyantonde after they were seen dancing joyfully during the official program.

The event, held on Sunday, June 9, 2025, was presided over by President Yoweri Museveni and attended by high-ranking government officials, veterans, and thousands of citizens.

The two female leaders drew attention from the crowd as they took to the dance floor during a performance by a local cultural troupe.

Dressed in traditional wear, they swayed to the rhythm of drums, ululations, and folk songs, drawing applause and cheers from attendees. A video clip of the duo dancing has since gone viral on social media, with Ugandans sharing humorous and admiring comments.

Their spontaneous dance moment appeared to capture the lighter side of what was otherwise a deeply reflective ceremony meant to honor the sacrifices of those who fought in the 1981–1986 Bush War.

Observers said their participation symbolized unity, celebration, and the bridging of generational gaps between current leaders and the country’s past struggles.

President Museveni, in his keynote address, emphasized the importance of remembering the country’s liberation journey and urged current leaders to uphold the values for which the heroes fought.

The ceremony also included medal awards for distinguished service, speeches from government leaders, and cultural exhibitions.

For many, however, the unforgettable highlight was the lively dance by Among and Anite — a moment that injected energy and humor into Uganda’s national commemoration.
