Prophet Elvis Mbonye of Zoe Ministries foresaw the death of Pope Francis over nine years before it occurred. Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday in 2025 at the age of 88.
On January 5, 2016, Mbonye delivered a prophecy indicating his awareness of the event that would later unfold in the Vatican. While addressing his congregation, he deliberately withheld specific details about the circumstances surrounding the Pope’s death and avoided explicitly naming Pope Francis.
Mbonye described the vision as life draining and connected to the Vatican, choosing not to elaborate further to avoid challenging certain beliefs. Despite his restraint, he appeared to possess deeper knowledge about the event.
The death of the pontiff has sparked widespread conspiracy theories regarding the end of the world and Judgment Day, drawing on prophecies attributed to St. Malachy.
In his 1139 work, Prophecy of the Popes, St. Malachy listed names of popes starting from his era. Some interpretations suggest the book names 109 popes, with Francis as the final one.
According to these interpretations, the last pope, referred to as Peter the Roman, would lead the church through great tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city would be destroyed, ushering in divine judgment and the end.
