Two Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldiers and two civilians have been arrested in connection with a string of nighttime robberies in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
The suspects that include Private Moses Mutebi from the 73 Battalion under the 5th Division and Private Mulumba, based at Makindye Barracks were arrested on Monday, 7th April, 2025. The civilians were identified as Emmanuel Muyingo of Busiika and Ezekiel Wandera of Bamba Cell in Kasangati.
Their arrest followed a joint security operation led by ASP Charles Twinemukama and UPDF personnel under the command of Major Lubwama. The team launched the operation after receiving reports about a man frequently spotted in a UPDF uniform, moving at night in a black Subaru (registration UBK 813A).
During the operation, authorities apprehended three suspects and recovered the vehicle in question. Other items seized included a UPDF jacket, four women’s dresses, two pairs of women’s shoes, one pair of children’s shoes, and several other items yet to be disclosed.
Security officials allege that the suspects, sometimes dressed in military attire, carried out robberies in areas such as Kiteezi, Busiika, Buwambo, Matugga, Makindye, and parts of Kampala.
Private Mulumba, believed to have played a central role in coordinating the robberies, was handed over to the UPDF and received by CPL Herbert Twinobusingye at Kasangati Army Barracks. Meanwhile, the seized vehicle remains impounded at Kiteezi Police Station. The civilian suspects face charges of unlawful possession of government property.
