The accident, which occurred in Mukono under yet-to-be-confirmed circumstances, left Gariyo fatally injured. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Gariyo, who was registered under the number BIT/286/UMC, was described by peers as hardworking, humble, and full of potential. His sudden passing has shattered friends, lecturers, and family alike.

“RIP our own student at MIU. He was doing BIT. Gariyo Gibiso, 24, BIT/286/UMC. He died in a terrible accident this morning in Mukono,” read a somber post circulating across social media platforms.

Photos of the late student, shared widely online, have drawn hundreds of condolence messages from the MIU fraternity and beyond. The university administration has officially expressed condolences, promising full support to the family during this difficult time.

Gariyo’s death is the latest in a string of road tragedies that continue to plague Uganda’s highways, reigniting public concern over road safety enforcement and infrastructure.

A memorial service is expected to be held on campus in the coming days.
