A horrific domestic dispute in Kibibi, Butambala District, ended in a double tragedy on Wednesday evening after a man hacked his 70-year-old father to death over sukuma wiki, only to be lynched by a furious mob hours later.According to police, the deceased elderly man, identified as Milton Abednego, got into a heated argument with his 39-year-old son after discovering that he had plucked sukuma wiki (collard greens) from a nearby garden he had personally cultivated.

What began as a verbal exchange quickly spiraled into a deadly confrontation.Eyewitnesses said the young man, enraged by his father’s scolding, picked up a panga and struck him on the head. The vicious blow caused severe bleeding, and the old man died at the scene before help could arrive.

After the attack, the suspect fled the scene. However, word of the gruesome act spread quickly through the village, prompting an angry mob to track him down.He was cornered a few kilometres away and stoned to death by the enraged villagers, according to police.

Security personnel who responded to the incident recovered the panga used in the attack. The bodies of both the father and son were taken to Gombe Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.Speaking on the incident, police in Butambala strongly condemned the act of mob justice.

“No matter how grave the crime, suspects should be handed over to authorities for proper legal procedures. Mob action is criminal and punishable by law,” a police spokesperson stated. In a separate and equally tragic incident in Tumuli village, Kiruhura District, the body of a 13-year-old boy was discovered by the roadside late Wednesday evening.

The boy is believed to have been strangled elsewhere and dumped at the scene. One suspect, who was reportedly last seen with the deceased, has been arrested to assist in investigations.Meanwhile, in Aboke, Kole District, a long-standing land wrangle turned deadly when a man was fatally stabbed by his uncle during a violent altercation.

The uncle and his wife, who sustained serious head injuries in the scuffle, claimed they acted in self-defense after being attacked with a panga. They are currently receiving treatment under police guard.Police have launched investigations into all these incidents, urging the public to resolve disputes peacefully and report crimes through the appropriate legal channels.
