Two fishermen from Kaaya landing site on Lulamba Island in Bufumira Sub County, Kalangala District, have been detained in connection with the killing of a woman allegedly resulting from a love triangle.
The suspects, aged 44 and 38, are believed to be involved in the death of Mary Gorreti Adongo. Her body was recovered on Sunday, floating on Lake Victoria near Bugobe Village.
Local leaders report that Adongo was last seen vending tomatoes on Friday of the previous week. She had recently entered into a relationship with one of the suspects after ending a previous partnership, and both men reportedly suspected her of infidelity.
Her remains were first noticed by fishermen, who alerted the authorities. Officials at the landing site arranged to secure the body to prevent it from drifting away before notifying the police.
Law enforcement authorities have opened a murder case file at Kalangala Police Station as they continue investigations. Adongo’s body showed visible bruises suggestive of possible strangulation, and a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the precise cause of death.
