One traffic officer was knocked dead and another critically injured in a hit and run accident along the Kampala Northern By-pass early today.
The incident happened in Kiwatule, in the out skirts of Kampala when a speeding vehicle knocked the two traffic officers, Corporal David Rachkara and police constable Francis Muzahura.
The two were returning from Namugongo shrine where they had been assigned on special duty, ahead of the Namugongo martyrs day celebration when the tragedy occurred.
ASP. James Wakhooli, the deputy traffic officer Kampala explains that Corporal Rachkara died on spot while constable Muzahura was rushed to Mulago hospital in critical condition.He called on road users to be careful on the road to avoid a repeat of the incident.
In a related incident, Pilgrims have been called upon to be extra vigilant as they commemorate Martyrs day in Namugongo.
Lameck Kigozi, the police spokesperson from Savannah and Ssezibwa region says police is on high alert and as such expects Christians to report to police any suspicious looking people or luggage that is left unattended to.
