TORORO: Police Release Identities of 2 Suspects in Murder of Councilor, Hawa

Police has revealed the identities of two persons suspected to have murdered Hawa Mariam, a businesswoman and resident of Nyangole ‘A’ Cell Nyangole Ward, Eastern Division, Tororo Municipality, Tororo District on Sunday.

 

IP Mugwe Johnson Moses, the Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, has identified the suspects as Hamdan Yusuf, a brother to the deceased who reportedly had land disputes with her, and a stepson, Omara Michael, who lived with the deceased.

 

According to reports, on Sunday this week, at around 6:30 PM, Hawa Mariam was found unconscious in her house with a flat iron wire cable tied around her neck and an injury to her right eye. She was rushed to Doctor Specialised Plaza Tororo for treatment, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body was then taken back to her home.

 

“A report was filed under Tororo SD Ref: 92/02/09/2024 and CRB: 748/2024. The crime scene was visited and documented by SOCO, a team of homicide detectives, and other police officers led by the District CID Officer, Tororo also visited the scene,” Mugwe said.

 

“The body was taken to Tororo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.

 

He also noted that police were unable to deploy a canine unit at the crime scene, as it had been compromised by first responders who had moved the victim in an attempt to save her life.
