TORORO
Two secretaries of Tororo municipal council have tendered in their resignation letters to the office of the mayor over what they called personal needs.
The two secretaries are Muhammed Woniaye, the secretary of works and technical services and Paul Aliboko, the secretary of health and education. Woniaye is the parish councilor of Kasoli whereas Aliboko is the municipal male youth councilor.
The duo in their resignation letter dated today 25 November 2024 cited the need to have more time for their electorates and personal need.
It’s rumored that most of the municipal secretaries hardly receive anything in line with their appointments yet the voters expect a lot from them making them vulnerable to the community demands.
The two secretaries’ resignation follows a number of unbecoming scenes at municipal council including premature ending of the recent council, abandoning of next financial year’s budget conference and a pending petition raised by over 15 councilors that has never received a response for over a month.
In their petition, councilors accused council technical staff of corruption and maladministration.
Municipal council is supposed to sit this week on Thursday however some councilors have threatened never to sit in any council meeting until their petition is handled to its logical conclusion.
East news website has learnt that the councilors are equally mobilizing to reject any further appointments to fix the positions of two secretaries who resigned.
The resignation has already been received by Tororo municipal council central registry.
Speaking to East news, the municipal speaker Clement Ochai has also encouraged the municipal authorities to first handle the councilors’ petition because they raise a lot of allegations that he thinks greatly affect council business.
