TORORO: 14-Year-Old Boy Dies While Swimming In Open Pit

Residents of Siwa C village in Siwa Sub-county of Tororo district are currently in shock and grief after a 14-year-old boy died while swimming in a nearby open pit filled with water.

The deceased boy has been identified as Raymond Owude.

Speaking to EastNews, an eyewitness said that the deceased had moved with his three colleagues in the afternoon of Wednesday, 27^th November, 2024 who all took off and left him alone struggling after they had realized that he drowned.

Margret Nyafamba, a neighbor says the incident was very shocking and heartbreaking since Raymond was one of the surviving children in the family.

Nyafamba has urged all parents and guardians to regulate the movement of their children at a time when heavy rains associated with floods are too much in the region.

John Owere, a resident of Siwa C village said relevant authorities should mobilize and sensitize communities on dangers of heavy rains to avoid such incidents.

Police is yet to comment on the matter.
