Thugs hack woman to death, injure another in Bulenga – The Kampala Report

The Police through the Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS) has embarked on hunting for thugs who last week killed a woman and left another fighting for her life in Sumbwe Parish, Bulenga, in Wakiso. One woman was found hacked to death and another unconscious.

Since the locals could not identify the women, Kampala metropolitan detectives have handed over the exhibits to DFS to establish through DNA analysis whether the attackers are part of the previous criminals whose details were captured in the forensic data system.

Sarah Kalule, the Chairperson of Bulenga B zone, wondered why the women were attacked just a stone’s throw distance from the Local Defence Personnel Unit (LDPU) detach.

“What is perturbing is the fact that criminals have successfully committed their acts against our people yet we have security in this area. We also put a security committee to work with police to have these villages protected but this has not helped us much,” Kalule said.

The woman who was killed hasn’t been claimed by relatives, causing speculation about whether the victims were attacked by criminals or people they knew very well. Some locals have claimed that some bars in their area hire women to seduce men.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, has said that they are now waiting for DFS results to establish whether the victims were attacked by the same person or group since they were at different but adjacent spots.

“The security situation has been controlled. But the deceased woman hasn’t been identified. Anyone with information should come and give it to us. We picked some evidence to know whether it was the same group. We want culprits apprehended as soon as possible,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Panga-wielding thugs have often terrorized Bulenga and Kyengera areas leaving scores injured and sometimes causing death. In 2023, machete attacks in Bulenga and Kyengera left three people dead including a white foreigner.
