Tragedy has struck Madera Boys Boarding Primary School in Soroti City East, after an 11-year-old pupil met a sudden and tragic death.
The deceased, identified as John Paul Ekaru a Primary 3 pupil, died in a pit latrine accident within the school premises on the night of July 26th.
According to the East Kyoga police spokesperson, Edison Obukulem, the incident was reported by the school’s head teacher, Annet Grace Ariokot at Madera Police Station under case file vide SD REF05/27/072024.
The police report indicates that the pupil, now the deceased, went to the pit latrine around 9 pm, but unfortunately, the dilapidated structure collapsed, trapping the child inside.
The body was discovered after a roll call the next morning at 7am, and a search exercise was conducted, with the help of the police fire department, to retrieve the body which was later confirmed to be the body of Ekaru.
The police, led by the OC Station, have launched an investigation into the matter, and several statements have been recorded from witnesses.
The deceased body was conveyed to Bethesda Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
