Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent journalist, former Presidential Press Secretary, Senior Presidential Advisor on Media, and outspoken social commentator, passed away on August 13 at the age of 60. Known for his fearless political commentary and sharp wit, Mirundi was one of Uganda’s most polarizing yet respected voices.

Mirundi died of lung-related complications around 11:40 PM at Kisubi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for over a month. Despite initial signs of improvement, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his untimely death.

Political analyst Joseph Tamale Mirundi last year  opened up about how he was poisoned five times while revealing that doctors had predicted he would die in three years.

Fortunately, he sought healthcare from Nairobi, Kenya and embarked on treatment early enough to combat the poison in his body.  Tamale Mirundi revealed that his medication has been facilitated by Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and the gunfire attack that was launched against him on Tuesday night left Mirundi furious.

The motormouthed Mirundi said that he knows what was going on and he knows where he ate the poison from.

“I know where the problem came from. The doctors said it’s pneumonia but I know what happened and I know everything. I know where I ate the poison from. It was strong because it beat all the muscles and if I wasn’t stubborn, I would me moving around in a wheelchair,” Mirundi said.

The former Presidential Press Spokesperson claimed  that what has helped him survive for this long is using tobacco and charcoal to help neutralize poison. He was glad that his then check-up confirmed that he was fine and all his body organs were in good condition although he is going to keep up with medication.

“Pastor Bugingo is one of the people who understood what good I did for them and he has never abandoned me. He buys me medicine. Doctors had predicted that I would die in three years but because of treatment and my cultural ancestors, recently I got checked by medical personnel from America and I was told that my organs are intact and very okay.” Mirundi Said

“They also promised to send me medicine that I’ve been buying from Nairobi, Kenya straight from America. My internal organs were damaged because I was poisoned five times and I survived because I take hot drinks every day. Smoking tobacco and charcoal helps neutralize poison.” Tamale Mirundi Added.

In a recorded phone conversation shortly before his death, the 59-year-old veteran journalist detailed how doctors drained large amounts of fluid from his lungs. His family, however, says to put any speculations to rest, they decided to carry out a post-mortem on his body.

“He talked a lot about poison,” said Mirundi’s brother, one Ssali.

“He was always concerned about being in danger, which is why the family said we should rule out any foul play.”
