Suspected Motorcycle Thief Burnt Into Ashes By Angry Mob

A suspected serial motorcycle thief, has been lynched and burnt into ashes by an angry mob in Rwenkuba cell, Rwenkuba ward, North division Fort Portal city.The deceased, has been identified by ASP Vincent Twesigye as John Barozi alias Young, resident of Karago town council in North division Fort Portal.

Barozi, is said to have been operating a bar in Karago trading center.

Real incident

The mob blocked Fort Portal-Bundibugyo road at Rwenkuba – Kyaruhazi -Kiguma road junction, targeting the vehicle no UAS 786W belonging to the North division mayor, that was transferring the suspect to police, smashed the car windows, forced the suspect out of the car before killing him and burning his body to ashes.

Resident’s view

According to residents, the deceased was lynched on allegations of being in connection with the murder of a 24 year old boda rider, after robbing his motorcycle.

The murdered cyclist, was identified as Richard Kwehayo, who was picked from his stage in Bukuku by unknown people, only to be discovered dead in Sebitoli Kibale National park.

Leaders intervene

According to Joseph Mashuhuko, the mayor north division Fort Portal city, the deceased and another suspect alleged to be the brother to the deceased, were arrested in an operation with police, UPDF and the division security team.He said that on their way taking the suspects to police, they were intercepted by an angry mob, which overpowered them and grabbed the deceased from them.

 

Mashuhuko, further revealed that before meeting his death, Barozi confessed that he has been stealing motorcycles, and using a gun to rob mobile money agents.

Residents determined to kill more thieves

Residents who were present at the scene, further vowed to deal with any thief who would be caught stealing their properties and taking away their lives.

Observable to them, is an increase in cases of theft in the region, steered by the police who arrest and release thieves, without being tried in court.

Meanwhile, the North division police commander Richard Richman, has confirmed the existence of the incident, saying that further investigations of the matter are ongoing.
