State Attorney accused of soliciting Shs100m bribe granted bail – The Kampala Report

The Anti Corruption Court in Kampala has granted a 10 million Shillings cash bail to Sam Tusubira a State Attorney. Tusubira is facing charges of soliciting a 100 million shillings bribe from a litigant in a land matter.

Tusubira who is attached to the Attorney General’s office/Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs was on Monday granted bail by Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe who also ordered his respective sureties to sign non-cash bond forms of 50 million shillings after finding them substantive.

Tusubira was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit last week and charged with 16 counts of corruption before the Anti-Corruption Court remanded him to Luzira where he has been since Tuesday.

The Prosecutors contend that  Tusubira reportedly solicited the bribe from  Ronald Yawe who had sued the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General over the irregular cancellation of his land title.  Of the said 100 million shillings, Tusubira allegedly received  43,660,000 as “facilitation” to procure consent from the Attorney General.

The prosecution further alleges that Tusubira received several bribes to handle and manage Yawe’s land case between October 2023 and January 2024, which was pending before the High Court.

He however denied the charges against him and was granted bail on the presumption that he is innocent.

His arrest followed a complaint filed by Yawe with the Attorney General’s Chambers, alleging that Tusubira took his money but later refused to pick up his calls and failed to assist him in getting compensated.
