Veteran opposition legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has officially ended his affiliation with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), signaling a major shift within Uganda’s opposition politics.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Ssemujju announced his departure, stating: “Effective May 12th, I will no longer be part of the FDC. Whatever direction the party chooses to take is no longer my concern. I’m now focusing entirely on the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).”
His decision to leave follows prolonged internal turmoil within the FDC, where Ssemujju has played a prominent role for more than a decade—serving as both party spokesperson and Member of Parliament.
The FDC has in recent years been embroiled in leadership disputes and accusations of internal compromise, contributing to widespread dissatisfaction among key members.
By officially joining the PFF, a political formation led by Dr. Kizza Besigye, Ssemujju is aligning himself with a movement that seeks to rekindle efforts for democratic change, transparency, and civil liberties in Uganda.
Ssemujju affirmed that his political journey will now continue under the banner of the PFF, which he described as more focused on real opposition and the restoration of good governance.
The FDC has not yet publicly responded to his exit, but political observers expect the development to deepen the ongoing rivalry between Uganda’s opposition factions and potentially reshape alliances ahead of future elections.
