The South African Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, on the margins of the St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum, stated that the bond between Russia and South Africa is “unbreakable.”

He also mentioned, as reported by Sputnik, that Russia has been instrumental in South Africa’s struggle for sovereignty and autonomy, stressing in particular the USSR’s pledge of safety to South African officials.

“That relationship has never died, and that relationship will never die. […] We will never ever turn our back on Russia, and Russia has never turned its back on us,” Gayton McKenzie told Sputnik.

Additionally, both of these nations have decided to alternate cultural tours in their respective countries. The minister revealed to Sputnik that the two orchestras from both nations would herald these tours.

“We have already spoken with the [Russian] minister [of culture, Olga Lyubimova]. As I am speaking to you, I have just made it possible for two Russian orchestras to travel to [the city of] Cape Town and two Cape Town orchestras traveling to Russia,” McKenzie said.

The sport’s minister pointed out that whilst each country has its own culture and customs, the BRICS nations should share ideas, learn from one another, and harness their strengths for mutual gain.

He also stated that unprecedented successes can result from the cooperation of great nations.

In the buildup for the 16th BRICS summit, which takes place in Kazan from October 22 to 24, Russia, the 2024 BRICS chair, is organizing a several activities. There will be 250 activities spread throughout 11 regions during these festivities.
