SOROTI CITY
Rain has blessed the first day of Ateker Cultural Reunion festival shortly upon the arrival of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who came accompanied by the first lady Janet Kataha Museveni.
The Reunion begins officially today, Wednesday, November 27, 2024 with thousands of different Ateker community members from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda host country.
H.H Paul Sande Emolot Etomaileng the paramount chief of Iteso commended President Museveni for the steady peace.
He emphasized that the Ateker community lagged behind due to insecurity at border points. He requested President Museveni to talk to his counterparts in other countries to support women, youth and elders who are peace activistS. He thanked the president for reviving the railway line in Tororo saying this should be extended to Ateker community in Soroti, Moroto up to Kenya and Ethiopia to promote trade.
This marks the inaugural reunion of its kind since the Teso community departed from Ethiopia, celebrating their shared heritage.
