Eight people are reported to have died and eight others in critical condition from Bulambuli and Sironko districts after being buried by a landslide on Wednesday, 27th November, 2024 while in their houses.

Due to heavy rains, a land slide occurred today Wednesday at Kesenji village, Zebibi Parish Bukyabo Sub County in Sironko district where Grace Wanyeze 58 years old was buried in her house.

In Masugu TC village and Kimamolo Village at Buluganya Sub County in Bulambuli district, 20 homes were buried but one home had 7 people who are still missing up to now.

Eight who escaped with serious injuries from different homes at Buluganya Sub County in Bulambuli district are currently admitted at Zema health center III in critical condition.

According to Wilson Nasina, one of the locals from Sironko, the landslide happened at Bukyabo Sub County in Sironko district and Buluganya Sub County in Bulambuli which are neighbors.

He says the Landslide started from Buchabo Sub County in Sironko and stretched to Buluganya Sub County in Bulambuli district.

He says that landslide also destroyed crops like maize, coffee, and beans among others.

Emmanuel Masuba, one of the residents from Buluganya Sub County says that cracks are still many in the area as rain continues which has put other locals on tension.

He says that the landslide occurred when most people had deserted their homes after seeing cracks and rain which reduced the number of deaths.

Masuba urged the government to bring machines and dig such that they can remove bodies from the soil.

Annet Nagidu, the LCV chairperson of Bulambuli district says that rain also cut off Buyaga road after Nagudu bridge was washed away by River Simu after it burst it’s banks on Wednesday evening.

She urged the Central government under the ministry of disaster Preparedness to intervene quickly.
