North Kyoga Police PRO SP Patrick Jimmy Okema disclosed on Thursday evening in a press statement that police in North Kyoga region are investigating an aggravated robbery in Amolatar District.

The territorial command in Amolatar District is closely following a case of aggravated robbery, following a complaint filed by one Olal Tobby, a 41-year-old businessman and resident of Bei Wei village, Namija parish, Agwingiri Sub-County in Amolatar District, that he was robbed of 27 million shillings by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen also shot and injured one Alele Francis, a 22-year-old shop attendant.

The incident occurred on September 7, 2023 at around 9:00 AM at Abako-Atidi trading center.

It is alleged that Olal Tobby was selling in his wholesale shop at Abako-Atidi trading center when three unknown men came on an unidentified TVS motorcycle, parked near his shop, and dressed in jackets. They pretended to buy some shop items.

One of the men asked for soda, while another asked for a bag of sugar as a camouflage to confuse Olal Tobby.

In the process, Olal Tobby was put at gunpoint and ordered to lie down as the other man went to another room where the shop attendant Alele Francis was sitting.

He added that another man entered straight inside the bedroom and allegedly picked some money from the bucket which was under the bed and also money from the drawer of the counter. In the process, Alele Francis tried to make an alarm and struggled over the money. That’s when he was shot at and injured on the left buttock. The bullet came out from his thigh and they quickly took off.

A case of robbery and attempted murder has been registered at CPS Amolatar. The scene of the crime was visited by a team of police officers led by the District Police Commander. The scene was examined and documented by SOCO. Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses from the scene.

An exhibit (cartridge) was recovered from the scene. The victim, Alele Francis, was rushed to Amolatar Health Center IV for treatment. A PF3 form was issued to the victim.

The suspects are still at large. However, efforts to apprehend them are ongoing.

SP Okema said this looks like a planned robbery because the assailants knew where the money was kept. However, it is subject to investigation.
