Shock: Night Watchman Found Dead Near School in Mubende

The community of St Andrew Kaggwa Secondary School and its surrounding villages were in shock on Tuesday after their night watchman was found dead in the morning.

Paskal Rukundo was discovered along the road near the school, located in Madudu Sub-county, Mubende District.

Edward Habiyaremye, the Subcounty chairperson, noted that the community was at a loss, and the school was particularly affected. He pointed out that students were in distress as the night watchman had been a friend to them, impacting their ability to concentrate in classes.

Habiyaremye suspects that Rukundo was killed.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala stated that the police were treating the death as a murder and had initiated investigations to uncover the facts.

Mike Batte, a close friend of the deceased, shared that he had spent time with Rukundo the previous evening. Rukundo had just received his monthly salary and bought beers for his friends. Batte lamented that Rukundo, who was well-liked in the community, was killed.The deceased had served the school for three years and was also a parent at the school. Batte highlighted Rukundo’s dedication and commitment to his job despite various challenges.

Joseph Batanyaga, the defense secretary for Madudu Village where the incident occurred, said they found Rukundo on the roadside around 6 am. Initially, they thought he had drunk too much, but upon realizing he was dead, they reported to the police station in Madudu.

Hilary Ssalongo Nsubuga, the headteacher of St Andrew Kaggwa, emphasized that the school had lost a hardworking support staff member.Lydia Ayinembabazi, the head prefect, noted that they found the school gate closed around 6 am, which was unusual.

Police have taken the body to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
