Senior UPDF Officer Arrested in Shocking Car Robbery Incident in Western Uganda

In a shocking twist that has rocked both the security forces and the public, a senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer has been arrested in connection with a violent car robbery in Sheema District.

Maj. Various Matomi Oyesiga, the Commander of the 309 Brigade based in Rubirizi District, is now behind bars alongside two accomplices for allegedly assaulting a man and stealing his vehicle.

According to police reports, the trio carried out the brutal attack on one Apollo Kansiime in Migina, Kagongo, before making off with his Toyota Premio, registration number UAL 692Y. Sources close to the investigation revealed that Kansiime was severely beaten before his car was taken. The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, triggered an intense police operation.

The suspects were later tracked down to Kabwohe Town, where police found the stolen car parked outside a local bar. During a search of the vehicle, officers uncovered a loaded AK-47 rifle bearing serial number UG UPDF 56030424—linking the crime directly to military personnel.

“This is a deeply troubling case, not only because of the violent nature of the robbery but also due to the involvement of a high-ranking UPDF officer,” a police source told Spyreports. “We expect the suspects to be charged with aggravated assault and robbery.”

Maj. Matomi and his co-accused are currently detained at Sheema Police Station as investigations continue. The incident has raised serious questions about the integrity of individuals within the armed forces and how military resources may be misused for criminal activity.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and that no one is above the law, regardless of their rank or position. The UPDF is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

This high-profile arrest underscores the need for tighter scrutiny and accountability within security institutions, especially when those entrusted with public safety are found on the wrong side of the law.
