Bwera Division, Rwenzori East – Authorities in Bwera Division have arrested a 65-year-old retired police officer, Sipriano Kyakwire, on suspicion of murdering his 48-year-old wife, Masika Night Kihimba. The incident occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Kakone I Village, Bwera Sub-county.
The tragic event unfolded around 1:30 PM following a heated domestic dispute. According to preliminary reports, Kyakwire allegedly used a knife to fatally stab Masika during the altercation.
Investigations reveal that Masika had recently returned from visiting relatives in Mughnese Cell, Nsenyi Ward, Kisinga Town Council. Upon arriving home, she began gathering her belongings with the intention of leaving. Kyakwire, reportedly angered by her decision, locked all exits, seized a sharp blade, and stabbed her in the abdomen, resulting in her death.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that Bwera Division police responded swiftly to the incident. The suspect was apprehended, and the crime scene was secured for further investigation.
Authorities are working to establish the exact motive behind the killing as the investigation continues.
