Tragic Infant Death Sparks Arrests in Sheema District
Sheema District, Greater Bushenyi Region – Police in Sheema District have arrested two individuals following the tragic death of a three-month-old infant in Kamurinda Cell, Runyinya Parish, Kigarama Subcounty. The suspects, identified as Ahimbisibwe Naboth, 51, and Ntoreine Reagan, 19, are both residents of the area.
The incident unfolded on the night of January 31, 2025, when Ntoreine Reagan allegedly engaged in a heated quarrel with his wife, Namaganda Mariam. The argument reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, prompting Mariam to flee to a neighbor’s house for safety. In her haste, she left her three-month-old baby in bed.
Upon returning home the following morning, Mariam made a heartbreaking discovery: her infant had died under unclear circumstances. The exact cause of death remains unknown, and the body has been transported to Kabwohe Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Local authorities have condemned the incident, emphasizing the need to protect innocent lives. “We condemn any actions that result in harm to vulnerable individuals, especially infants,” stated a police spokesperson. “This is a tragic case, and we are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
The arrests of Ahimbisibwe Naboth and Ntoreine Reagan have left the community in shock, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. As the case unfolds, residents are urged to remain calm and allow law enforcement to conduct their inquiries.
