The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed that a female suicide bomber was killed earlier today in Kalerwe Market, one of Kampala’s busiest trading centres.
According to the UPDF, the suspect was taken down before she could detonate any explosives. Security forces, including the bomb squad, are currently on the ground conducting investigations.
In a brief statement, the army said, “The bomb squad is on the ground carrying out investigations.” The scene has since been cordoned off, and traders have been urged to stay calm as authorities assess the situation.
Details surrounding the identity of the woman and the exact motive behind the attempted attack remain unclear. The UPDF says further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
