The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has recovered millions of Shillings from persons who ordinarily do not qualify for Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in Sheema District.

According to a statement issued by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Thursday, 7th November, the monies have been recovered from mainly teachers and Local leaders, especially councilors.

The operation followed numerous complaints on the mismanagement of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in Kabwohe, Sheema district.

“These included teachers and some local leaders who were arrested for enabling unqualified persons to access the money. So far, millions of shillings have been recovered and more is expected to be recovered,” reads the statement in part.

Among those suspected to have orchestrated this scheme are; Nkwemerere Robert, District Speaker, Asasira Winson Kafurembe, the District Commercial Officer and Masiko Robert, Councillor Masheruka T/C, and Secretary Production.

Investigations have so far revealed that some SACCO leaders connived with the Commercial Officer to make irregular payments of the funds by disregarding the Parish Development Committees (PDC), which are charged with the responsibility of verifying rightful beneficiaries.

The disregard was an avenue for extortion, such that those who were able to pay bribes would be made legible for payment, thus the numerous irregular payments.
