Luweero District, Uganda – Tragedy struck on the Gayaza–Zirobwe Road over the weekend when a road accident claimed the lives of a pastor and a four-year-old child, leaving the local community in mourning.
The collision occurred on Saturday evening, when the vehicle carrying the victims reportedly lost control and overturned along the busy road. Eyewitnesses say the car veered off the tarmac before crashing into a roadside trench.
Police confirmed the deceased as a local pastor, whose identity is yet to be formally released, and a four-year-old child who was traveling with him. Other passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment.
Traffic police attributed the crash to overspeeding and possible mechanical failure, adding that investigations are underway to establish the exact cause.
“We continue to urge motorists to respect speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting off,” an officer at the scene said.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination, while the wreckage of the vehicle has been towed to Zirobwe Police Station for inspection.
Local leaders and residents have described the loss as devastating, particularly for the Christian community that regarded the late pastor as a spiritual guide and mentor.
The accident has reignited concerns about road safety along the Gayaza–Zirobwe Road, a highway notorious for reckless driving and frequent crashes.
