The dark days of ‘panda gari’ seem to be back in Uganda having gone quiet for three years since 2022 after National Unity Platform reported forced abductions of their top leaders by men holding guns. The country last experienced these dark days mostly during the reign of President Idi Amin Dada.
On Monday it was Bobi Wine’s eldest brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu alias Chairman Nyanzi who was abducted on gun point at Ku Bbiri round about as he returned from the part headquarters. Nyanzi is the head of mobilization in NUP and his whereabouts after the abductions remain unknown.
Reports coming now indicate that four members of National Unity Platform’s Electoral body who include Mercy Walukamba, Rovans Alex Lwanyaga, Rahma Juma and Kayabura Eddie are currently missing and available information indicate that they were abducted by men holding guns in Mpigi district and driven away in drones according to Bobi Wine.
Abducting of Ugandans climaxed towards the 2021 general elections where several NUP party members were being picked by armed men driving in numberless drone vehicles. Some have been released which some have never been seen for the last 3 years and NUP continues to demand for their release of bodies if they died.
