One Dead, Seven Injured After Taxi Overturns On Kabale-Mbarara Road

A two-month-old juvenile has died, and seven others have been injured after the taxi they were traveling in overturned in Kabale District.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 10:00 a.m. at Kabaraga, along the Kabale-Mbarara Road. The vehicle involved, a Toyota Hiace with registration number UBK 650N, was operating on the Kasese-Kabale route and was traveling from Mbarara toward Kabale when it lost control and overturned.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, identified the deceased as Mikiel Turyamureba. The injured passengers were named as Saturina Katusiime (20), Gadi Nabataki (43), Alice Biira (47), Rose Komugabe (49), Prudence Kyarisima (27), Precious Ayebezibwe (11), and another juvenile identified as Turyamutunga.

According to Maate, the scene was inspected by ASP Mucunguzi Wilson and his team. The injured passengers were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital using the facility’s ambulance, while the deceased’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The vehicle has been towed to Kabale Central Police Station pending inspection as investigations continue to determine the cause of the accident. Maate emphasized the importance of regular vehicle servicing and cautious driving to prevent such tragedies.
