Nyege Nyege Essentials: These Are the Items You Should Have on Your Packing List

Festivals like Nyege Nyege are awesome to attend, right? The Nyege Nyege festival is scheduled to take place starting tomorrow and running through Sunday at Jinja Golf Course in Jinja City.

According to the police, about 15,000–20,000 revelers, well-wishers, and tourists from the East African Community, other African countries, and around the world are expected to attend the four-day event.

With such a large crowd, we’re sure there will be first-time festival-goers. Deciding to attend literally means you’ve consented to endure heat, rain, dirt, crowds, and long hours of standing and dancing, all while having the time of your life.

Despite all the craziness, you need to prepare a festival checklist to ensure you have all the essential items.

The first and most obvious thing is your festival ticket—because if you forget it, nothing else matters.

Next, make sure to bring money and a mobile phone. You’ll need money to buy food and beverages, and a phone to stay in contact with your friends.

With claims that the festival attracts underage children and encourages immoral acts, be sure to carry your national or work ID.

Have you booked your accommodation yet? If you’re not camping, you’ll need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, or sleeping mat. You may also want to take a blanket for extra warmth and comfort.

Another important item for camping is a flag. This will help you locate your tent among thousands of others, but make sure it’s distinctive and recognizable.

When it comes to festival wear, the police have been tasked with ensuring that revelers are dressed decently. We won’t go into the details of what’s considered decent, but let’s focus on the unpredictability of the weather.

First, be prepared for hot days by packing warm-weather clothes, such as shorts, t-shirts, tops, and dresses.

We know that it can get cold, especially at night, so pack some warm clothing like a long-sleeved sweatshirt, long trousers, a hoodie, or a sweater.

Also, make sure comfortable footwear like boots, trainers, and open shoes are on your packing list. But choose shoes you don’t mind getting ruined.

Lastly, health and hygiene are key, so pack items like hand sanitizer, deodorant, painkillers, contraceptives, and, for women, sanitary products—because you never know when your period will show up.

This year’s Nyege Nyege festival is sponsored by Uganda Waragi, Bell Lager, and Talent Africa.
