Namisindwa district local government has returned over Shs1.1billion for the last financial year of 2023/24 to national treasury.

The money was meant to pay contractors who had successfully accomplished construction works at various schools including Namboko seed school in the district.

According Namisindwa District Education Committee document which was discussed on 23rd August, 2024 during the education committee sitting which and seen by our reporter, Namboko seed school contractor located in Namboko sub county was supposed to be paid 772 million shillings other schools like Buwuma primary school located at Lwakhakha town council 58 million shillings, Situyi primary school 58 million shillings located at Magale sub county and Busulwa primary school 64 million shillings located in Tsekululu sub county.

One of the contractors who preferred to be anonymous says that they successfully completed works and were given certificates of completion but they were not paid money deliberately over unknown reasons yet the central government released money to the district account.

Jackson Wakwaika, the Namisindwa district LCV chairperson confirmed the issue saying its true money was returned to national treasury but it was not deliberate.

He says that the CAO approved all contractors to be paid but the district chief finance officer forgot to pay the contractors making the system to take back money to national treasury.

Wakwaika called for calm among the contractors saying the office of the CAO has written to the ministry of finance and all that money is going to be bounced back to the district account soon and the contractors shall be paid.
