The Namisindwa District Acting Commercial Officer has taken legal action against the Namisindwa Assistant RDC, Bosco Nabongo for allegedly defaming him.

In the letter of intention to sue dated, Tuesday, 4th November, 2024, Bernard Kitongo accuses Nabongo of going on air at Elgon fm 101.4 Mbale city based local radio station on 28th October and accused him of illegally soliciting a bribe of 1 million shillings from all PDM SACCOs in the district.

Kitongo who is being represented by Nabende Advocates argues that the allegations are baseless saying the Assistant RDC only intended to tarnish his reputation among the rightful thinking members of the public.

In the letter, Nabongo has been asked to offer a public apology, retract his statement and pay the aggrieved Shs20M for the ridicule the Asst RDC has allegedly caused him before the right thinking members of society within seven days or risk being sued.

When contacted on phone on Thursday, 7th November, 2024, Nabongo admitted airing the information on air while having a talk show.

He says the RDC office is mandated by law to fight corruption.

“During PDM phase I and II program, we registered lots of complaints from beneficiaries about extortion and the public has been pinning Kitongo,” Nabongo says.

Nabongo adds that since he is the eye of the President in the district, he sounded a serious warning to people during the talk show against offering any money before being registered under PDM.

He says that as assistant RDC, he will not be threatened by any technical staff while fighting corruption adding that he has to deal with such officers such that the President can be elected massively during the 2026 general elections.
