Museveni responds to Otafiire on corruption fight

Corruption is a big problem but very easy to fight,” he said.

Corruption mainly targets government resources destined for the people. For instance, the money for the roads is supposed to build roads, capitation grants go to schools, drugs go to health centres and PDM money goes to the parish.

In all those areas there are potential beneficiaries who are denied these services because of corruption. If therefore the CID officer liaises with the people, they will tell you because they are the victims,” he added.

If you work with the victims, they will give you all the information you need to punish all who are involved in corruption.

Otafiire warns

President Museveni was responding to earlier comments by Gen Kahinda Otafiire, the Minister for Internal Affairs who at the function lamented about the deep-rooted corruption even in the state security agencies.

Gen Otafiire rallied fellow government leaders to step up the fight against corruption.

“I find it difficult that is only you making the clarion call to fight corruption when the rest of us in leadership are silent,” the minister said.

We have to continue talking about this. I have worked with the CID and ODPP and I know what happens down there.

“I urge you to do soul searching and do internal recitation of the ‘mia culpa’,” he added.
