Ugandan businessman and philanthropist Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has been appointed a Patriotic Officer by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), joining 117 other prominent Ugandans in the organisation’s expanding network.
Ruparelia has been assigned the designation PO/198 among the latest group of appointments announced on Friday, September 11, by PLU General Secretary Fadil Twalla.
The 118 newly designated Patriotic Officers were appointed by PLU Chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and include individuals drawn from the business community, politics, public service and other sectors.
Ruparelia’s appointment comes just days after he publicly endorsed Gen Muhoozi’s anticipated 2031 presidential bid by signing a PLU endorsement book.
Following the endorsement, Muhoozi thanked the businessman for his support in a message shared on X.
Ruparelia has in recent months also taken part in initiatives associated with the PLU chairman. Earlier this year, the Ruparelia Foundation contributed Shs100 million towards Muhoozi’s Run for Hope campaign, with Ruparelia also attending the charity event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
His latest appointment gives him an official designation within the PLU structure as the organisation continues to expand its network by bringing prominent Ugandans on board.
Ruparelia is the chairman of Ruparelia Group, one of Uganda’s established private-sector business groups, with investments across real estate, hospitality, education, insurance and other sectors.
Through the Ruparelia Foundation, he has also supported programmes focused on education, youth and community development.
The latest PLU appointments covered designations from PO/183 through to PO/300, accounting for the 118 newly appointed officers.
Other prominent figures named in the list include former Vice President Professor Gilbert Bukenya, who received designation PO/300, as well as Minister Sarah Nakawuki, Amos Lugoloobi, Musa Ecweru and Faith Mercy Lakisa.
While congratulating the newly appointed officers, Twalla urged them to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, loyalty and commitment to both the PLU and Uganda.
The announcement did not give specific reasons for the appointment of individual officers.
For Ruparelia, the designation follows a series of public engagements with Gen Muhoozi and the PLU, placing the prominent businessman within the organisation’s growing network of influential personalities.
The development comes as political activity surrounding Muhoozi’s future presidential ambitions continues to draw public attention, while PLU expands its mobilisation efforts and engagement with Ugandans.
